FAQ

Interested in French Immersion?

SRFACS offers a French Immersion program from Transitional Kindergarten to 8th grade.

French Immersion consists of programs and courses in which French is the primary means of communication in the classroom.

SRFACS follows the Common Core standards established by the State of California and incorporate the Common Base of Knowledge and Skills compiled by the French Ministry of Education. The guiding philosophy of SRFACS is to provide a standards-based education program, taught primarily in the French language. Students at SRFACS will excel through a structured and clearly defined teaching program oriented towards the acquisition of core knowledge, and will receive systematic training in reading, writing, and the mastery of the French and English languages and mathematics, as well as solid cultural references, that will prepare them for success.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a charter school?

Charter schools are opened and attended by choice providing an alternative to other public schools. They are subject to the rules established by the States in which they operate.

What is the cost for tuition?

SRFACS is a public school and does not charge tuition.

Is SRFACS a good fit for your family?

Families that value bilingual, bi-literate and multicultural skills and parents who want to be involved in their children's everyday school experience, will find this charter school a good fit.

How do I enroll my child?

Please contact the school or visit our enrollment page on the website.

Does our child need to speak French to join SRFACS?

No. Some children will start SRFACS already fluent in French, and others will not speak a word. The younger the child, the easier it is to acquire a new language. If your child is excited about the challenge, SRFACS may be a good fit. Tutoring information will be provided to parents that are interested.

Will classes be taught in French or English?

Throughout the course of a school day, most of the instruction will be in French. History has shown that if an immersion school is to be successful, the majority of instruction must be in the target language. Subjects such as English language, arts and California history will be taught in English.

What are the school hours?

The school hours will be 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, & Friday. Wednesdays are 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

How can I help my child with homework?

Le Club des Devoirs (study hall) will be offered before school at 7:30 a.m. each school day. This extended day program will provide students with fluent, French-speaking staff to help overcome any language challenges and complete the assignments. Parents can use this time to ask questions about assignments so they can feel confident about helping at home.

What are the continuation options for SRFACS students beyond 8th grade?

Students transitioning from SRFACS to middle school will have received similar or higher content as their peers at other schools. Students may continue in our French immersion program at SRFACS Satellite on Slater Middle School campus for 7th and 8th Grades. Following middle school, Santa Rosa City Schools offers a “choices” program, which allows students to select the high school that best serves their higher education and career goals. Graduating students from Santa Rosa French-American Charter School will have the opportunity to continue their French with Montgomery High School’s IB (International Baccalaureate) program which offers an advanced curriculum with an international focus to students in grades 11-12.  SRFACS students not residing in Montgomery's high school boundaries must apply during Open Enrollment. Students may participate in the complete diploma program, or they may take individual IB classes as certificate candidates. “Pre-IB” students in grades 9 and 10 take university pathway courses to prepare for the IB program. Students leaving SRFACS will be performing at a level equivalent to the French educational system and can be assured a smooth transition if moving to France.
